Navium Marine: Blue Mind Garden
The garden draws inspiration from the concept of ‘Blue Mind’, highlighting the calming and mentally restorative benefits of being near, in, on, or beneath water. This design delves into our deep-seated attraction to water and the characteristics that draw us to its presence. It explores how water can enhance our well-being and demonstrates ways to replicate the fluidity and tranquility of water into a compact urban space, allowing us to experience the benefits of ‘Blue Mind’ even in a small setting.

THE PROCESS of OUR WORK

Working with the Ocean Conversation Trust

The balcony garden invites visitors to reflect on their personal connections to the sea while emphasising the importance of protecting this vital habitat. Key design elements celebrate the essence of water, including ripple-effect cladding that mirrors light in wave-like patterns and a water feature that highlights the importance of sound.

Working with discarded ocean shells

Shellstone is a project that explores transforming shell waste from local London restaurants into sustainable landscape materials. The forgotten practice of utilising seashells dates back thousands of years, developed by communities with limited natural resources, yet in the UK alone, around 8 million tons of seashells are discarded each year, contributing to ocean waste.
Our new prototype tiles & pots are made by grinding discarded seashells and blending them with other plant-based sea waste to create marbled ‘bio-concrete’ material. Rich in calcium carbonate, similar to cement, seashells show great potential as a sustainable alternative to traditional concrete and aims to demonstrate the potential ecological value of using this ancient process.
