Inspired by English Grassland, this garden is designed to sit elegantly within the natural landscape. The brief was to create a space that connects to its locality of oaks and hedgerows, and which blurs into the landscape beyond.
A key design element was to bring the planting to the terrace, allowing the garden to be enjoyed within the property. The naturalistic drifts of planting are inspired by the traditional prairie planting where the composition has an informal, meadow-like character.
Punctuated with large fruit trees, the meadow is a blend of natural species and ornamentals including Salvia nemorosa ‘Pink Dawn’& Echinops bannaticus which flow through grasses including Stipa and Molinia. Rising out of the meadow planting, the concrete pool is the only hard landscaping within the garden and is the main focal point within the design. Not only a haven for wildlife, the pool provides an area to sit and relax within the heart of the garden.
